Imagine a world where high quality protein is grown at an accelerated rate without GMOs or chemical fertilizers; a world where we can look out onto otherwise unused desert land to see a vast system of self-sustaining algae bioreactors growing food and fuel.
With technology, innovation and an unprecedented surge in public support for green initiatives, this vision for the future has become a viable plan for success.
The nutritional quality of our food supply is being diminished and our topsoil is being damaged or lost at an alarming rate. The chemical fertilizers and pesticides used with genetically modified seeds (GMOs) leave nothing to anchor the soil from erosion.
Furthermore, the residual poison left in the crops ends up polluting our environment and fed to our livestock (which we then put into our bodies). With only so much arable land available, we are on pace to have another 2 billion mouths to feed by the year 2050.
Aside from its incredible health benefits and long list of product applications, blue-green algae (Cyanobacteria) uses land and water much more efficiently than other crops allowing it to deliver more nutrition per acre than any other food.
Even though blue-green algae has been pumping oxygen into our atmosphere for 3.5 billion years, it has only been cultivated commercially since the 1970's. Therefor, limited technology for maintaining optimal growth conditions, and processing it for food or biofuel has been a significant barrier to commercial viability. Reshape The Landscape Foundation's research and innovation initiatives are working to overcome these obstacles.
The commercialization of algae farming is the key to healing our planet. Reshape the Landscape Foundation exists to serve the community by bridging the gap between the high cost of implementing large scale algae production facilities and the long-term benefits they provide to humans and the planet.
Reshape the Landscape Foundation's mission is to advance the sustainability, scalability and commercialization of algae farming.
We are committed to bringing together engineers, scientists and research teams by collaborating with universities and national laboratories to accelerate algae technology development and explore new and existing product applications for algae.
We are committed to empowering engineers and industry leaders to advance technology that reduces the costs associated with setting up large scale algae cultivation systems, maintaining optimal growth conditions, and more efficiently processing the algae into usable food or biofuel.
We believe that real change starts with an understanding of the problem and what solutions are available. We’re committed to informing and inspiring the public to get involved by raising awareness around the incredible benefits algae has for our bodies and the planet.
We are committed to moving humanity past the basic needs of survival with outreach campaigns designed to strengthen the food supply chain, diversify the food supply, and nourish those suffering from hunger or food insecurity.
We are committed to transforming deserts into productive land and reshaping the way we produce food and fuel by developing industrial-scale and self-sustaining systems of producing algae that operate in harmony with the environment.
